Conductor Joshua Chiu, a native of Hong Kong, has conducted the Moravian Philharmonic (Czech Republic), Mav Symphony Orchestra (Hungary), Missouri Symphony (USA), Novus Et Antiquus Orchestra (USA), Pro Arte Orchestra of Hong Kong, and the Aula Simfonia Jakarta (Indonesia). Joshua is selected as conducting fellow in the Vancouver Symphony Orchestral Institute (June 2019) and the University of British Columbia Chamber Orchestra Festival (July 2019). In 2018, Joshua appeared as a conducting fellow in the Pro Arte Summer Music Festival and as part of Maestro Jahja Ling's International Masterclass in Jakarta. He was also a fellow with Le French May Festival conducting masterclass in 2017.
Joshua has also served as the assistant conductor for productions of the Indiana University (IU) Jacobs School of Music Opera and Ballet Theatre. He assisted conductor David Neely for the production of West Side Story, and conductor Stuart Chafetz with the Spring ballet (2018) production of George Balanchine’s La Source, Martha Graham’s Diversion of Angels, and Mark Morris’s Sandpaper Ballet. Joshua also assisted Carmon Deleone with IU's annual production of The Nutcracker. He has assisted such conductors as Arthur Fagen, Fabio Mechetti, Paul Nadler, Nir Kabaretti, Federico Cortese and Marzio Conti for symphonic concerts. He also has worked in masterclass settings with esteemed conductors such as Jahja Ling, Carl St. Clair, Stefan Lano, Mikko Franck, Giancarlo Guerrero, Daniel Boico, Charles Olivieri Munroe and Ilona Dobszay-Meskó.
Joshua believes his gift of music from God and he loves to serve the Lord with music and glorify Him.
He began his conducting with Mr Ho-Man Choi of Pro Arte Orchestra of Hong Kong, and he received his Masters of Music in Orchestral Conducting from the IU Jacobs School of Music in 2018, studying with conductors Arthur Fagen, David Neely, and Thomas Wilkins. Joshua is currently working closely with his mentor Maestro Jahja Ling.
